How FlowBoard Saves Your Work

Dieser Inhalt ist noch nicht in deiner Sprache verfügbar.

FlowBoard saves every change to your document’s Markdown file automatically. This page explains how saving works, how to get back to an earlier state, and what FlowBoard does when the same file is changed elsewhere.

Autosave is on by default. FlowBoard writes each change to the file a moment after you make it. The header shows the current state: Saved or Unsaved.

To change the delay, or to turn autosave off:

  1. Open Settings → File & Saving.
  2. Under Auto-save, choose a delay from Instant (300ms) up to 2 minutes, or set a custom interval.

With autosave off, press Cmd+S to save. That shortcut also saves immediately while autosave is on.

Press Cmd+Z to undo a change and Cmd+Shift+Z to redo it. Undo covers changes to boards, columns and cards, including deletions, and it keeps working until you close the document.

On Mac, FlowBoard keeps backup copies of your document. Each time a save changes the file, FlowBoard first copies the previous version into a _backup folder next to the document. It keeps the 10 most recent copies.

To change how many copies are kept, or to look at them:

  1. Open Settings → File & Saving.
  2. Under Backups, set how many versions to keep, from 1 to 100.
  3. To see the files, select Open backup folder.

Because autosave writes often, the copies cover your most recent editing. Keep your own backup of the folder for longer-term history.

If FlowBoard can’t create a backup, it doesn’t overwrite the file. It asks whether to Save a copy or Save anyway.

On iPad and iPhone, FlowBoard doesn’t create these backup copies.

The file can be changed outside FlowBoard, for example by a sync service, another device or a text editor. FlowBoard checks for this when you return to the app.

  • You have no unsaved changes: FlowBoard reloads the file and tells you it did.
  • You have unsaved changes, or a card is open for editing: FlowBoard doesn’t choose for you. It pauses saving and shows a notice in the header with three options:
    • Overwrite original replaces the file on disk with what you see in FlowBoard. The other changes are lost.
    • Save as copy writes your version to a new file and leaves the original untouched.
    • Reload from disk discards your changes in FlowBoard and loads the file as it is now.

If you’re not sure which version is right, choose Save as copy. You can then compare the two files.

When FlowBoard opens a document, it marks it as open. If you open a file that is marked as open on another device or in another window, FlowBoard warns you with File May Be Open Elsewhere:

  • Open Read-Only lets you look without risking conflicting saves.
  • Open Anyway opens it for editing. Use this if you’re sure the file isn’t open anywhere else, for example after FlowBoard didn’t close cleanly.

In read-only mode, the header shows Read Only. You can still make temporary changes, but FlowBoard never writes them to the original file. To keep them, select Save as copy. If you close the document with temporary changes, FlowBoard asks whether to save them as a copy or discard them.

To open files read-only on purpose, turn on Open Files as Read-Only on the start screen before you open the file.
