Story Organization

Dieser Inhalt ist noch nicht in deiner Sprache verfügbar.

A document’s structure is physical: boards, columns, card groups, cards, and Markdown headings inside cards. Writers use it in different ways. For one, a card holds a whole scene. For another, a card is a single beat, and a scene is a group of cards. Story organization records which way your document works, so that “act”, “scene” or “beat” means the same thing to FlowBoard as it does to you.

  1. Open Settings → General.
  2. Under Story organization, choose what Cards represent: Scenes or Beats.
  3. Choose how Acts are organized as: Columns or Boards.
  4. Check Your structure, which shows what each level is in this document.
  5. Select Save settings.

Your two choices decide where each level of the story lives:

Cards represent Acts are organized as Acts Sequences Scenes Beats
Scenes (default) Columns (default) Columns Card groups Cards Markdown headings in a card
Scenes Boards Boards Columns Cards Markdown headings in a card
Beats Columns Columns — Card groups Cards
Beats Boards Boards Columns Card groups Cards

With scenes as cards and acts as boards, card groups aren’t a story level. They still group cards as usual. With beats as cards and acts as columns, there is no sequence level.

  • It describes your document. Choosing an organization never moves, groups, splits or rewrites anything, and FlowBoard doesn’t check whether the document follows it.
  • It’s saved in the document, so it travels with the file.
  • It’s not a story card type. In an interactive story, a card of type Scene is a scene in Play Mode, whether your cards represent scenes or beats here.
  • AI Assist reads it. Draft, Edit and Ask send it with every request, shown under Can read as a chip such as Story organization: Acts → columns · Sequences → card groups · Scenes → cards · Beats → headings. It only explains your structure: it never widens what a request can change. Rewrite doesn’t use it.

The Draft starters are named for what your cards represent, for example Develop this scene or Develop this beat. Edit’s Organize into acts, Organize into sequences, Split into scenes and Split into beats turn your words into the right structure for this document. See Organize a story into acts, scenes and beats.
