Example Requests

These examples show what each mode is good for, from simple to more involved. Adapt the wording to your story. Before you send a request, check Can read: the model works only with the context the request includes, and Can change shows what it may modify.

Open Rewrite this card from a card, or select text while editing and choose Rewrite selection.

  • “Tighten this paragraph without changing what happens.”
  • “Make Mara’s lines more guarded. Keep everything she reveals.”
  • With text selected: “Rewrite the selected line as a whisper.”
  • With three cards selected in Story Map, Rewrite: “Put all three cards in the past tense.”
  • “Rewrite this scene from Leo’s point of view, keeping the dialogue.”

Rewrite changes the wording only. To add tags, dates or story connections, use Edit or Story Map.

Open Ask AI about this card, Ask AI about this column or Ask AI about this story, and widen Scope if the question concerns more.

  • “Is the pacing of this route working? Where does it drag?”
  • With the board as scope: “Which scenes never mention the lighthouse after the first act?”
  • With Document overview: “List the open plot threads and the card where each one starts.” Add All cards — full text so the model reads every card, not just its first line.
  • “Compare the two choices at the gate. Does each lead somewhere that matters?”
  • In Story Map, after following a path in the Linear view, Ask → Reading path: “What does the reader know at this point?”

Ask doesn’t change anything. When an answer suggests changes you want, select Open this request in Edit and describe them.

Select the cards concerned, open Edit cards with AI, and choose a Scope that covers them.

  • “Duplicate this card below itself and translate the copy into English.”
  • “Tag every scene in this column that takes place at night with #night.”
  • “Move the flashback cards into a new column named Flashbacks, after the last act.”
  • “Add an @BG cue to each scene that changes location.” The cue type must exist in your document.
  • “Add @TK placeholders where a scene relies on something the story hasn’t established yet.”
  • “Split this scene into one card per narrative beat. Keep the text exactly.”
  • “Add level-2 headings before each beat in this scene. Don’t rewrite the prose.”
  • With the board as scope: “Structure this draft into acts, sequences and scenes on a new board.”
  • With the board as scope, the Split into scenes starter: it divides the draft into scenes the way your story organization describes.

Review the plan before you apply it. A long plan can run as a background AI job while you keep working.

Choose Draft on a card or a column.

  • “Mara returns to the lighthouse at night and finds the door open.”
  • “Draft two alternative endings for this scene as separate cards.”

Some requests are outside what AI Assist does. These take you to the right feature:

You ask for What happens Use instead
“Split this card into three” in Rewrite Rewrite changes the text of the same card Edit: ask it to split the card, or use Split into scenes or Split into beats
“What does the reader know here?” asked from a card The route it sends also holds later scenes In Story Map, Ask → Reading path
“Fix the Story Health warnings” in Edit Edit can’t change story tags In Story Map, Edit → Repair Story Health
“Connect this scene to the ending” or “Add a choice here” Edit doesn’t change the connections of existing scenes In Story Map, Edit → Expand into choices or Bridge, or build the branch yourself
“Rename this board” or “Delete the empty columns” Edit plans can add boards and columns, but not rename or delete them The board list and column menus. See Boards and columns
“Link this card to the card about Mara” A generated card can’t carry a link ID Create the link yourself. FlowBoard assigns the ID
“As we discussed before…” Each request starts fresh. The model doesn’t see earlier requests or answers Include what matters in the instruction, or add it as context
“Fix the typo in this card” in Ask Ask is read-only Rewrite, or Open this request in Edit and describe the change
“Describe the character in this picture” AI Assist receives the image’s file name, not the image Describe what matters in your instruction
“Delete the images nobody uses” AI Assist works with card text, not with files Settings → Assets → Clean unused media. See Clean up unused media
